When we started Local Victory almost nine years ago, there weren’t a lot of great resources on the Internet (or in print, for that matter, with a few notable exceptions) for people running for political office. Sure, there were some companies online selling products to candidates, but not much in the way of actionable information, tools, and resources.
Today, some things have changed, and some haven’t. Now, unlike then, the Internet is one of the first places people look for information about everything, including running for office. On the other hand even today, there’s still not a lot of good information available online on how to run a campaign and get elected.
But over the past few years, a number of good sites have popped up that offer really valuable information and resources to candidates and campaign committees. Below, we present a few that we think are particularly helpful:
This blog on running campaigns and winning elections is updated often and includes good information on topics like politicking online, using newspaper ads, and using political consultants.
A nicely written blog that leans conservative and occasionally covers North Carolina politics (the state where the blog is based) but which also includes a good amount of general information on how to get elected.
Thinking about using TV ads in your next campaign? Trying to figure out how to hone your message by appealing to core human values or move voters by using emotionally compelling visuals? This website archive presents almost every TV commercial run by every major party US presidential candidate from 1952-2008, in an easily browse-able format.
The Political Consultants’ Online Fundraising Primer (PDF)
This PDF presented by George Washington University is geared towards federal candidates, but includes great information on raising money online for campaigns at all levels.
Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t include Local Victory’s own How to Win ANY Election kit in this list – I created this kit to be the single best resource on winning elections available anywhere, online or offline.
